The team reveals how they beat the heat when the days get hot
It’s late July, and we’re in the midst of a heat wave that is pushing temps close to 100°F every day. Meanwhile, persistent inflation and rising interest rates have the industry on red alert for an economic cooldown, which is enough to give anyone the chills.
Whatever the forecast for the markets may be, we’re making the most of our hot summer days. Here’s how the team gets our thrills and chills on the hottest days of the year.

What’s your favorite way to spend a summer weekend?
Individually, I love to get up early, before it’s too hot, and go for any form of bike ride, but mainly a grueling mountain bike climb and descent. Taking the few hours to do this really clears my head. I could be in a terrible headspace and the first 10 minutes of the ride I’ll be thinking all kinds of unnecessary or unhelpful things, but once the ride gets tough, I have to fully focus on what I’m doing. An hour later, those things that were so prominent in my head are now firmly located somewhere that I can’t reach, and I’m a different person, a more joyful person. As a family, we love to head to the mountains and go for a paddle on our SUPs, sit on the lanai and look at Lake Dillon and go for walks in downtown Frisco.
How do you cool down when the temperature breaks 100°F?
Go somewhere that isn’t 100+ degrees? We have a pool in our neighborhood and taking a nice cool swim always helps on a hot day. I also love to go fly fish, as it may still be hot, but at least you have cool water splashing all around.
What’s your favorite chilled beverage or frozen treat when the weather gets hot?
We love cocktails in the evenings. The summertime is not a time for heavy, boozy bourbon or whisky drinks. It’s a time for the lighter side. So we try to mix it up with lots of citrus and often make it less boozy by adding soda water and maybe even some herbs from the garden. A good Bees Knees, Harvey Wallbanger, Tom Collins or Gin Fizz really hits the spot and keeps scurvy at bay! Cheers!
